How does the process for a custom dress work? Call Lea for an appointment. Bring any clippings, photos, drawings or items that you like aspects of. This assists in identifying what you gravitate toward. Lea will ask you to share details of the wedding/event including the theme, location/time of year, colors and any other special elements. We will explore your ideas and any questions about the dress you are looking for. If you aren’t yet sure, we will work together to determine the dress that fits your personality and style. You will try on shapes to determine the best compliment to your body type. We then move on to the fun of choosing your design, fabric, colors and embellishments.
How far in advance should I meet with you for my special event? It's never too early! Generally, several months ahead of your event is best. When we speak about your dress, I will be able to let you know if your time frame is possible.
If I don't know what I want entirely, or at all, should I wait to come in until I do know? No. In my experience, the process will bring that to clarity. We will guide you from any starting point through the steps toward creating exactly what style and colors are right for you.
I'm the mother of the groom, do I need to fade into the background? Absolutely not. The modern bride wants you to shine in your own way and look as beautiful as you can look. You do not have to wear beige! It is protocol to wait and see what the mother of the bride is wearing. She and the bride usually give the "go ahead" for you to select what you want, once she's chosen her color.
I want to shed some weight prior to my event or wedding. Can you still help me? Yes, we can absolutely start the process. We can begin to choose your style and color. We then schedule your fitting closer to your event, so you have time to work on your goals. This is often a situation I work with.
How do fittings work? Your first fitting will be either with a muslin (lightweight cotton fabric) model or with your actual dress in its early stage. To this fitting, you will need to bring the undergarments you will be wearing with your dress. We will establish any changes necessary to create exactly what you desire. As experts at fitting dresses perfectly, we strive to make your figure to be as flattered as possible. Your second and final fittings, etc. will be established after we know what changes will be made.
What should I plan on spending for a custom dress? Costs are determined by the design, fabric choice and fittings. I am very fair with my pricing for my brides. A dress can be priced for as little as $1,800. The average cost for a beautifully designed dress is usually between $2,000 to $6,000, possibly more, depending on the fabric and construction. My brides are always happy and satisfied customers and I enjoy working with them, immensely! The average price for a custom outfit for mothers and special events is usually between $1,200 and $3,000. More elaborate construction and fabrics can cost more.
What if I get my dress and I'm unhappy with it? This rarely has been an issue in my business. I have an ability to ask the right questions and have a very good rapport with my clients, and communicating about what they are feeling and wanting throughout the step-by-step process.
